As of June 28, 2024, the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia (CMTBC) ceased operations as an independent entity. It was merged with three other legacy colleges to form the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (CCHPBC) as part of a comprehensive modernization initiative by the BC Ministry of Health. This new regulatory body now governs four distinct practices: Massage Therapists (RMTs), Chiropractors (DCs), Naturopathic Physicians (NDs), and Traditional Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture Practitioners (TCMAs).
Licensing & System Transition Details
The transition to the new CCHPBC licensing system requires practitioners to update their provider numbers to align with the latest regulatory developments. CCHPBC has launched a new licensing portal to facilitate this, with new license numbers issued in phases.
- The Timeline: Chiropractors were the first to transition, followed by Naturopaths and TCM practitioners. Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) are set to receive their new CCHPBC license numbers by October 5, 2026.
- The Deadline: According to the CCHPBC FAQ Document, all practitioners must complete the transition and update their billing networks, insurers, employers, and receipts with their new provider numbers by March 31, 2027.
