When the clinic's time zone and the Patient's calendar's time zone don't match, appointments may display at incorrect times in the Patient's calendar. This discrepancy can occur due to one of the following reasons:
Reasons for Appointment Time Discrepancies
Your Patients Viewing Appointments in UTC Time
The Patient's calendar might be set to the wrong time zone. Patients may not realize the appointment is shown in UTC rather than their own time zone. Ensure that Patients are aware of this and suggest they adjust the time zone settings in their calendars if necessary.
Your Clinic is in the Wrong Time Zone
This issue is common when a clinic selects a non-daylight savings time zone. For example:
- ADT - Atlantic Daylight Time (observes daylight savings time)
- AST - Atlantic Standard Time (does not observe daylight savings time)
Both ADT and AST fall under Atlantic time, but only ADT observes daylight savings time. If the clinic is set to AST and the Patient to ADT, appointments appearing in the Patient's calendar will be off by one hour.
Steps to Correct Time Zone Issues
- Update your clinic to the correct time zone.
- Delete and re-add any future Availability and Appointments since they will be in the wrong time zone.
- Upon re-adding any Availabilities and Appointments, they will be saved to the new, corrected time zone.
Important Note: If you have several appointments that need adjustment, please contact us for assistance in scheduling a bulk update.
