Noterro gets your Square Terminal device code list directly from your Square account each time the list appears, including on the payment screen, on invoices, and on the Billing page. Noterro does not store or manage device codes.
Any code that still exists in your Square account can appear in Noterro, even if you no longer use it. If old codes remain after you create new ones, delete the unused codes in Square to remove them from Noterro.
Before you delete a device code
Signing out of a terminal does not remove its device code from your Square account. You must delete the code in the Square Dashboard.
Do not select Reset for a code you want to remove. Reset creates a replacement code and signs the paired terminal out, so a new code appears instead.
Before deleting a code, check which code each terminal is currently signed in with. This helps you avoid removing a code that is still in use.
Delete old device codes in Square
In the Square Dashboard, go to Settings, then Device Management, and select Device codes. Find an unused code. The list shows each code’s name, location, and whether a terminal is paired to it.
Select the code, click the three dots (•••), and choose Delete. Repeat for each unused code.
Then reopen the payment screen or Billing page in Noterro. Noterro fetches the device code list from Square again, so only the remaining codes should appear.
For more information, see Square’s guide, Set up device codes.
If an old device still appears
If a code cannot be deleted, or an old terminal entry still appears after you delete its code, you can forget the device in Square. In the Square Dashboard, go to Account & Settings, then Business information, and select Devices. Find the terminal, open its menu, and choose Forget device. Then sign in to the terminal again using the device code you want it to use.
Forgetting a device signs the terminal out, so do this after hours or when you can sign back in right away. Square does not currently provide a way to unpair a single code from a terminal. Forgetting the device is the only option, as confirmed by Square staff on its developer forum.
Common questions
Can Noterro remove device codes for me?
No. Square’s Devices API allows connected apps to list and create device codes, but not delete them. You can remove codes only in the Square Dashboard.
Why do my new codes appear out of order?
Noterro displays codes in the order Square returns them. Deleting unused codes is the quickest way to tidy the list.
Will a code I created but never used disappear on its own?
An unused code expires 48 hours after it is created, but it may still appear in the list until you delete it.
Why did my terminal sign out after I deleted a code?
You may have deleted the code the terminal was paired with. Create a new code in Square, or use one of your remaining codes, and sign in to the terminal again.
