What is MailChimp?
MailChimp is a simple email marketing software (EMS) that allows you to create newsletters of varying types and then provides simple options for sharing them on social networks such as Twitter or Facebook, making it your platform for publishing your newsletter. Build a list of the people to whom you want to market your products, save the list for use later on, and create custom templates for your products so that you do not have to rewrite emails again and again.
Why should I use Email Marketing Software like MailChimp?
Email marketing is a surprisingly difficult task to do well, and also very hard to do legally. There are a lot of laws in place to prevent SPAM and also systems in place to trap junk email. Getting a high delivery rate and abiding by the law isn't as simple as it sounds. MailChimp includes an unsubscribe link on all of your emails and has a compliance team to help make sure your email campaigns are legal. They also have a very sophisticated delivery system to ensure your emails get to your recipients.
Also, how do you know if your email campaigns are worth the effort if you can't track the results? MailChimp has some great analytics available so you can measure the performance and improve your marketing campaigns. They also have some pretty nice templates too so you can have great-looking emails even if you aren't a designer.
What does connecting Noterro MailChimp do?
Once you have integrated MailChimp, Noterro will update your MailChimp account with all of your patients' names and email addresses. Noterro also constantly updates MailChimp every time you add a new patient or change an existing one. Noterro will make sure your MailChimp account always has a complete and up-to-date list of your patients so that you can send newsletters or campaigns out at any time with minimal effort.
What will it cost?
At the time of writing this, MailChimp has a free account that allows you up to 500 patients, and up to 1,000 emails per month (only patients with email addresses will count). If you go above these limits, you will need to go on a paid plan with MailChimp.
How to set up the Noterro MailChimp integration:
- Sign up for a Mailchimp account if you don't already have one
- Login into your Mailchimp account
- Click on Audience in the sidebar
- Click Preference Center
- Click Segments
- Click on the Settings tab
- Click on the Audience name and defaults (you may want to change the Audience name)
- Check all the Form Settings boxes (Enable double opt-in, Enable re-CAPTCHA, Enable GDPR fields)
- Customize Campaign defaults and New subscriber notifications to your preference
- Click Save Audience And Campaigns Defaults
- After you click Save Audience And Campaigns Defaults, note the Audience ID, you will need this later
- In the bottom left corner, click your Initial, then Account.
- Click Extras then click API Keys
- Under API Keys click Create a Key
- Copy the API Key
- Login to Noterro as the Admin
- Click on the Gear icon (top right header)
- Click on Integrations
- Click on Connect in the Mailchimp section
- Put in your Audience ID from step 10 and your API key from step 14
- Click Save
- And that's it! It may take a few minutes for MailChimp to initially load your patients
A few other things to know.
- If you would like to remove the integration, you can enter a blank MailChimp API key and a blank MailChimp List Name, and click Save.
- Follow these steps to unsubscribe people.
MailChimp has a ton of great features, we're happy to provide you with this integration!

I have followed this to a T twice now, and I still can't get it to integrate.
Once I have followed these steps and integrated with MailChimp, will new patient email addresses added to SOAPVault automatically populate the MailChimp list?
Jennifer, yes they will be added to MailChimp automatically.
Once I have integrated mailchimp, how can I ensure new patients are opting in for my newsletter? is there something I can change on my intake form to allow them to actually subscribe?
By default, they are added to your mailing list, but I will pass this along as a suggestion to our Product Team.
Thank you. In order to actually send anything via mailchimp, I need to be able to get my clients express permission with an option to opt out, otherwise, I believe is violates CASL (canadian anti spam laws)
Simple enough. Went smoothly. What triggers the transfer & how often? How iwill I know it is working?
Each time a patient's email is added or removed, it's synced to your SOAP Vault MailChimp List.
What happens to client already on my mailchimp list, then register with soapvault account? Which record is kept and/or updated?
Also, can a mailchimp subscriber be added to Soapvault via Mailchimp?
SOAP Vault will also constantly update MailChimp every-time you add a new patient or make a change to an existing one. Once you add someone to your SOAP Vault account they will be added to your Mailchimp account.
Yes you can manually add contacts to your SOAP Vault campaign.

Has there been a response to Molly Brook (above) about this?
I'm having the same issue.
SOAP Vault doesn't track opt-in / out, a general rule is to only add the patient's email address if they've given you consent to email them. If you've integrated your SOAP Vault account with Mailchimp for email marketing, opt-in/outs are tracked in there.
i followed the steps and soap vault is not recognizing the ID and API key
Kathrina, that's odd. I'd be happy to help, just book a time and we can get your account connected together. https://calendly.com/soapvault-migration/initial
Is there a way for those who have previously indicated they do not wish to be contacted refrained from being included on the mailchimp integration at all?
I guess I am seconding what was said above. Is there a way Noterro can include an option on initial intake forms for clients to select whether they wish to be contacted or not?
